In YC Onion fashion, you just unclip the top clip and it releases the whole column. No more twisting or unlocking per stage. There is a newer version of this monopod which is better with a clutch style system that is truly for one-handed operation but this is a huuuuuge improvement over a Manfrotto.

These are better than the Sachtler Flowtechs. We appreciate Sachtler for reinventing the wheel and there is no ways this tripod would exist without Sachtler's innovation but YC Onion have made their own mechanism that does not infringe on Sachtler's patent and to be honest the tube design of the legs is just better and more solid (less flex) than the Sachtler Flowtechs. The midlevel spreader is unnecessary but we have bought them for our kits because we know people don't like too much change in their workflows at once... A cute little bonus is that you can remove the midlevel spreader and use it as a table top tripod for a B-camera which we thought nobody would use but clients have told us that they have. You can rent the legs separately and pair them with your choice of head but we find the Manfrotto 504X to be a good value for money option. The 504X also allows for their "coconut bowl" levelling system to be used which just makes bubbling quicker. As soon as they release a 100mm bowl version, we will be first in line to buy them!

So we were a bit hesitant about this tripod's launch - YouTuber collabs seem a bit gimmicky but Smallrig has proven itself to be super reliable and after testing it out at Orms, we were sold. The handgrip clutch is amazing. I can see this speeding up so many doccie shoots and weddings as well as just being a great travel tripod. It will be my go to tripod for FX6 lightweight builds and down. The YC onion and Sachtler Flowtech legs are great for the slightly bigger jobs and are a workflow more people will be comfortable with but if you don't mind trying something new, this TRIBEX might steal your heart and ruin all other tripods for you.

Flowtech have reinvented the wheel with these legs! My lower back is singing this tripod's praises! The only other product that we have felt this passionately about was the original FS7 back in the day. With the Flowtech tripod, you just unclip the legs at the top and lift, you never have to bend or stretch around your tripod to lock off the legs. It is also super light and the shape of the carbon fibre leg is broad so it doesn't dig into your collar bone when you're carrying it on top of your shoulder. It's just the best thing in the world besides my cat Pixel.

If you haven't seen any videos on it, there are a million and nobody can fault them.
